Did you know that you can enter paid tournaments as many times as you want?

Orion Tournaments Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can you nutshell this for me? How does this tournament system work?

Sure! It is very simple really. You pay an entry fee and are entered in a Trivia Tournament and placed on level 1. You are randomly matched with another player on level 1 and both of you are sent an identical 5 question trivia quiz. Once both players submit their answers, a winner is determined. The loser's entry is retired. The winner's entry gets promoted to level 2 where the process starts all over. As you reach higher and higher levels, you win more and more money according to the payout schedule located here. You can enter the tournament as many times as you want consecutively. You could have any number of different entries in the tournament at any one time, all on different levels, all with their own match-ups, history, etc.

I can enter the tournament as many times as I want?  But I only have one account.  How does that work?

Yes, you can enter the tournament multiple times. Each "entry" is tracked as a separate identity or entity. When you lose a match, that entry is "retired" and any money that was won with that entry is deposited into your account. You still may have many active entries at the same time. Each active entry is listed in your account under the "Tournament Status" link. You can even view your "retired" entries there as well. Clicking the "History" link located adjacent to each entry will allow you to see a history of what happened during the course of that entry.

How come the minimum deposit is $10 when it only costs $1 to join the tournament?

Paypal charges thirty cents per transaction so on a $1 deposit, we would only get seventy cents. That is not enough for us to fund all the prize pay-outs for the tournament. A $10 deposit will give you 10 entries into the tournament - 10 chances to win a life-altering amount of money. But if you don't want to enter that many times, you can always withdraw whatever money is left in your account.

If I lose a match, am I done?

That entry is done, yes. It will be retired and any money that you won from that entry will be deposited into your account. That doesn't stop you from entering again (and again) however. You can enter the tournament as many times as you want. Each "entry" will be tracked separately and treated as a separate player.

What happens if there is a tie?

In case of a tie, the person who submits their quiz first will win. When you view your quiz for the first time, a clock is started. When you submit the answers, the clock is stopped. That elapsed time is used in determining the winner when there is a tie. That is why it is very important to complete the quiz as quickly as possible once you've viewed the first question.

If I have more than one entry, can I be matched with myself?

Yes, it is possible to be matched with yourself in a tourney. If this happens, one entry will be retired and the other entry will get a free pass to the next level.

Is there a time limit for me to submit my quiz answers?

Yes! You have 1 week (7 days) from the time you are assigned a match until the match expires. If you do not submit your answers by that time, you will forfeit the match.

Help! I lost the email with the link to my trivia quiz. What do I do now??

No problem. Simply log into your account at Orion Tournaments and click the "Tournament Status" link. There you will find a list of all of your active entries along with a link to any outstanding quizzes that you need to submit.

What kind of questions are on the quizzes??

Most of the questions are trivia items from sports, history, science, geography, general knowledge, etc. These questions are all answerable by doing a bit of searching on the internet. But once in a while you might see a logic question, math problem, riddle, or even a "free" question that actually tells you which choice is the right answer. Most of the questions are fairly difficult and will require a bit of internet research to answer. A few are quite easy and can usually be answered just from your own knowledge. There are also a few questions that are very difficult. If you happen to get one of these on your quiz and you are able to find the answer, you'll probably win that match.

Do the quizzes get more difficult on the higher levels?

No. Questions for the quizzes on all levels are randomly selected from the same question pool, so on average all the quizzes are equally hard. If you compete long enough, you may even see questions that you have seen before.

Hey, I just won a level 3 match and I was supposed to win some money. Why doesn't it show up in my account?

The money is not deposited into your account until the entry is "retired". After all, you may win more money with this (active) entry. We dont know how much money to pay you until you either lose a match or manually retire your entry from the "Tournament Status" page. Manually retiring an entry removes it from play and any money accumulated by that entry is immediately deposited into your account. You can not collect money from an active entry. It must be retired and removed from play first.

Isn't this like gambling?

No! Gambling implies a game of chance. This is a tournament. There is no luck or random events involved (like dealing cards or rolling dice). This is your skills in answering trivia questions matched against another players skills. If your skill doesn't measure up to your opponent's skill, you may lose your entry fee. But your loss is limited to the entry fee. It is impossible to lose any more than that.

There is a lot of prize money involved here. Is this a Ponzi scheme?

NO! All prize money is paid out from the entry fees collected. There is enough money collected from the entry fees to pay all of the prize money.

When can I get my prize money?

Prize money is deposited into your Orion Tournament account as soon as your entry is removed from active competition either by losing a match or by you personally requesting to exit the tournament. While your entry is active, there is no way of knowing how much prize money you will eventually win.

How do I collect my prize money?

Any money that is in your Orion Tournaments account can be transferred to your Paypal account at any time you wish. You simply click the "withdrawal" link in the "Accounts" tab and fill out a form requesting the amount you'd like to withdraw. Within 48 hours, your request will be processed and the funds will be transferred to your Paypal account.
